Presenting the Film Soundtrack for Gallivanting (2021).

Originally filmed and recorded in the mid 80's.

This soundtrack is comprised of Truus' many unreleased recordings she uncovered from her vast collection of cassettes. Dating between 1981 and 1989. Some were just single mono track recorded very primitively on whatever she had at hand, like a ghetto blaster, portable cassette player, a 4 track Fostex cassette recorder as well as a Tascam reel to reel. Most were short instrumental pieces, flash ideas for new songs and some field recordings of city sounds. All re-edited in 2021.

About Gallivanting the film:

Shot on super 8: New York City swallows you up and spits you out again. In the mid-1980s Truus de Groot spent many days ‘gallivanting’ in the city: aimlessly wandering, looking and absorbing. The materials for this film were shot between 1985-1987, fly on the wall style. We see people going about their business; traces of history; pockets of quiet in a mad city. She edited the footage and original 1980's soundtrack in 2021 as part of her Photo book and exhibit “GRIT, Truus de Groot in New York City”, published on Sago Press in 2022. Truus aimed to capture the overriding mood of those years. Of being constantly looked at without ever being seen.
